Thanks to everyone who came out and participated, making this an amazingly successful inaugural event for the Mobile Museum of Art’s ”Museum Nights” – We all had a great time and enjoyed plays by Colin Dacy, Stefanie Bencsath, Scotty White, David Lyons, Kim Tooks, Timothy Dixon & Brendon Cooke.

Mobile’s First Theatre Scramble is just a few days off and Mod Mobilian and the Mobile Press-Register gave us some love…
We’re excited!
In the beginning, there were pretzels

We started the concept for this theatre scramble back during the Softcore themed Mod Mobilian film scramble. The idea was mentioned to me by Ryan Jetten at the organizational meeting and, being into playwriting myself, I ran with it. I approached Trey Lane repeatedly over the next week until, perhaps worn down by my giddy enthusiasm, he granted me an audience. During that week, I ran the idea by others in the local film community and found that there were interested folks. So Trey and I set tentative dates for the meeting and the performance and we set about finding locations for each and garnering support from local theatre guilds, the writing guild, and various members of the arts community.
The vast majority of the folks we encountered showed tremendous enthusiasm for the scramble. In fact, I can’t think of anyone who wasn’t supportive. One of the things I heard repeatedly was something like “This is such a great idea! I always thought we should have something like this!” And it hit me: we’d stumbled upon an idea that was not in any way novel but simply hadn’t been done for whatever reason. In some ways, this angered me, not because I wanted to have a novel idea, but because everyone had in some ways shared a thought but never acted on it. In other ways, I was glad that finally we could bring forth this event and have so much support in doing so.
P.S. No pretzels were involved, but wouldn’t it have been nice if they were?
